Praying Mantisss

In my dreams I see him
And he’s standing by the bed
He is looking down politely
Implanting thoughts in my head

A thread of black saliva
Dripping down from his clenched teeth
His hands folded in prayer
Rippling shadows underneath

His giant eyes just glaring in a
Nebulous murky grey
His intentions remain unknown
As his hands reach out to pray

A whirlwind blows, the night creeps by
In a transcendental blink of an eye
A surreal numbness passes through
As The Praying Mantis watches over you

I can’t explain why he’s here
Keeping watch in this odd way
My perception broken, leaking fluids
My thoughts in disarray

Brainwaves thrown in at random
And then rearranged once more
Deep down there is no meaning
In their unstable, frenzied core

Dreams are merely fragmentations
Of our daily thoughts and lives
But I haven’t seen a praying mantis
Since nineteen ninety five!

A whirlwind blows, the night creeps by
In a transcendental blink of an eye
A surreal numbness passes through
As The Praying Mantis watches over you
